| Introduction | Michael Shelby Edwards is an American artist who works in oil paint, a variety of dry media, and ink. Recalled perennially to the human form and centered on portraiture, she incorporates aspects of her own body as well as likenesses of friends and acquaintances into her work. Drawing inspiration from the western intellectual tradition, mythology, folklore and sacred art, she combines naturalistic observation with invented forms, fusing together cultural and personal aspects of memory, myth, perception and dream.
