| Introduction | Dear Friends, Welcome to the Pleasures of the Palate. I created this blog with the hope of meeting other people who are passionate about food and wine to share information, inspiration and ideas. For too long, Americans have been steadily drifting away from their kitchens toward a panoply of chemical-laden products that bear little resemblance to food. I firmly believe that good food is a defining part of our culture in America. How did I become passionate about food? I grew up watching icons of American culinary inspiration such as Julia Child on public television, and I spent a great deal of time thumbing through the pages of a well-used set of cookbooks from Time Life that my family kept in the house. As a child, I had that sense of fearlessness about cooking that tends to be strongest in our youth. Am I a career chef or food writer? Not at all! I am a home cook with a demanding day job like so many of us out there. I enjoy my day job as a business professional in Phoenix, Arizona immensely, but, at the end of a long day, there is nothing I look forward to more than spending an evening with loved ones around a beautifully prepared meal. |
