| Introduction | As Captain Rational I am the current avatar of human rationality. Previous avatars were revered as gods. But because this world is in a cycle of declining appreciation of rationality, as the current incarnation I have to eke out a living as an I/T professional at the local university. The mantle of Captain Rational was placed upon me by my predecessor who had frankly grown tired of the gig. She explained many of the upsides of the role (the Light of Reason, the Final Argument, enhanced strength and durability and a slower aging process). But somehow she managed to leave out the frustrations of being the avatar of rationality in such an irrational world. Nonetheless, I soldier on, secure in the knowledge that the cycle will eventually come back our way. |
