| Introduction | My name's Mel. I have many jobs: the main ones being copywriter, mum, and Rachael's (my neighbour with Alzheimer's) friend. Not necessarily in that order. My job as Rachael's friend involves: • Being a good friend : ) • Being Rachael's facilitator: supporting her where she needs it – emotionally & practically, in daily tasks, in doing things she wants to do, & in aiding her independence so that she stays as good as possible for as long as possible. • Showing others (or trying to) that Alzheimer's and its symptoms don't define a person: that they are more than their illness, and worth spending time with, that we shouldn't close off from people with this condition but work to understand them, and help them as much as we can. That's it! Her job is: • To put up with me (it's a tall order). • To do the best she can with the crappy hand she's been dealt. She does both these things admirably by the way : ) |
| Interests | Data - freaky but true. Reading - I'm very bookish. Baking & jam-making – it's a kind of obsession with me. The great outdoors – I love birds & butterflies, me. Writing obviously. My daughter... |
| Favorite movies | Don't ask. I'm a sap for romantic comedies and the apocalypse. TV though - I love 24, Glee, Everwood, Millennium, X-Files, Chuck, The Event, The Walking Dead, Fringe... |
| Favorite music | I am just a little Nick Cave and Warren Ellis obsessed... I also love PJ Harvey, Kate Bush, Josh T Pearson, Johnny Cash, and country/folk music. And er, older music from my childhood, like Abba and Fleetwood Mac… I never said I was cool. |
| Favorite books | Real books please. I don't do the Kindle thing. Anything by Margaret Atwood, Haruki Murakami, me (ha ha), Philip K Dick... Sci Fi I like a lot. |
