| Introduction | My name is David Drury, I am a sound artist based in Montreal. Three years ago I moved to Belfast to work on a Master's degree in sonic arts. I lived in Northern Ireland for a year and a half, and have since returned to Canada.
The ICMC was held in Belfast in 2008 and I returned to Northern Ireland to design a sound installation based on the Peace Lines in west Belfast. Over ten days I gathered field recordings in the areas bordering the walls and interviewed the residents whose homes line the streets it divides. The result was then installed as a virtual sound space that could be navigated using a GPS enable listening device. The new space was in a neutral area, and the new sonic geography was conspicuously lacking a wall. A montage of some of the sounds can be downloaded here: PEACELINES PODCAST |
