Introduction The only directive I've ever truly honoured is this: ... "Don't pick the "Lady Slippers..." I was 3 years old when I first reached down to pick one of these exquisite beauties in the woods which once sheltered both of my parents's parents and many of our kin at one time or another. It was my mother's mother who admonished me that they were becoming 'endangered' and that "one day they could all be gone..." She said it in a voice of such pathos that my wee heart formed around her words. . May the echoes of all such deep directives shape our hearts and our deeds.
