| Introduction | About seven years ago I was just starting to rock climb. After floundering on a gym climb, John walked up spouting beta, and I was instantly smitten. Our first date was rock climbing in the Gunks. At the end of the day John and I hiked to the top of the cliffs to watch a full Lunar Eclipse with a bottle of red wine. This was Our Lunar Eclipse. After a few years of camping and rock climbing we got engaged. It was August, and overwhelmingly hot! We just finished Broken Sling, and I was sweating in my shorts and bikini top, covered with dirt and chalk when John asked me to marry him. We were just about at the same place on the cliff where we watched Our first Lunar Eclipse. I jammed that beautiful ring on my gnarly grimy fingers and practically danced down the carriage road the rest of the day. A few months later we got married at the Mohonk Mountain house, not far from where we watched our eclipse. Now we have a son, who is the center of our universe. He points the moon out to us whenever it is visible. John is still a brilliant scientist, and I am a stay at home mom. It all started with Our Lunar Eclipse. |
