| Introduction | Elementary school teacher for 22 years. Currently volunteer in elementary grades 2-6. While I typically assist with math and writing, I'm better known in the community for directing classroom musicals My continuing interest in empowering kids to direct their learning has led to research in areas such as motivation, learning, and brain function. Comparing the effectiveness of traditional ideas and practices with those which find inspiration and support in research was a major interest when I taught daily and remains so to this day. Being an avid reader of works which directly and indirectly address educational topics, it is my hope to engage educators in discussion of both big, philosophical, ideas and of day-to-day classroom practices which have such a profound impact on both students and teachers. |
