| Introduction | I'm retired from WA UAM, Poznań where I used to teach ELT methodology, BrE phonetics and EFL at academic level. 2007 - 2023 I was a director of Teacher Training Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty. My experience in ELT goes back to my first, awkward, 'teach-as-I-was-taught' beginnings in 1982. Since then I 've gone a long way. I've taught English at all possible levels, to all age groups (excepting nursery and primary), in many educational contexts and institutions, from unimaginable number of books, or preferably without them, and without any advanced technology like the interactive board, the Internet and the like. I spent ca. 8.000 hours teaching English in a grammar secondary. In FLT I believe in simplicity, minimalism and myself as an intelligent human and a critical professional. I don't believe in fashionable trends, bogus theories (Gardner's MI, learning styles, neurodidactics, NLP etc.), phony EFL research (boredom, autonomy, mediation), following syllabi, teaching to exams and going by the book. Actually, I don't trust teachers who do. As a matter of fact, I despise them. The books, not the teachers who slavishly teach from them. Them, I pity. |
