| Introduction | Laura Summer was born in 1955 in New York City. She grew up in northern New Jersey and Southern California. In 1986 after 13 years working as a nurse and midwife she moved to central New York State to complete a painting training with Jennifer Thomson. Since 1996, she has run Bright Wing Studio, an independent painting studio in Harlemville, N.Y. where she teaches adults and children. Her work is based on Rudolf Steiner’s indications and on Goethe’s color theory. In this type of painting the artist begins to converse with a progression of colors. Although a certain mood or direction may be intended, there is at the beginning of each painting no preconceived idea of what the final painting will look like. Through the slow building up of color the conversation leads to form, composition and finally to motif which may be representational or abstract.
