Introduction I am a professor of physiology (retired) and the author of the undergraduate college/university textbook, "Human Biology: Concepts and Current Issues", published by Pearson Benjamin Cummings. I was raised in the state of Washington, where I spent as much time as I could outside, observing nature. I earned a B.S. in zoology at Washington State University and then a Ph.D in physiology from The University of Michigan. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University I took a faculty position at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, where I remained for most of my career. In 2001 I moved to the middle east, first to take the position of Founding Dean of Oman Medical College, and then Associate Dean for Premedical Education at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. I’ve always had a passion for sharing my interest in biology with undergraduate students, particularly those who may ultimately choose not to be scientists. The textbook and this blog stem from that passion. Feel free to share your comments about the topics and/or about how you’ve used the topics in your Human Biology classroom.
