IntroductionComposition and color are the primary goals of my work. Additionally, the paintings and drawings must speak, tell a story and incite a spiritual reaction. Many of the repeated images have significant personal meaning when seen in the context of caring for my ill mother. Sticks and leaves summon thoughts of life and death. Barbed wire may reflect the trials and agonies of the daily routine when caring for a loved one with a terminal disease. Waves and beaches beckon sensations of breath, rest, peace and freedom. Feathers are my favorite. They elicit a capacity for hope A friend gave me a poem by Emily Dickenson, which summarizes their meaning for me. It begins "Hope is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tunes without he words - And never stops - At all." My mother recently passed on to a new life, but my work continues to be my voice of hope and healing. Perhaps one day it will evolve into something else, but for now, I will continue to paint of hope, healing and peace.
