Introduction | I am the author of 'City of Incident' (Aleph 2021), 'Prelude to a Riot' (Aleph 2019), 'Bread, Cement, Cactus: A memoir of belonging and dislocation' (CUP 2020); 'Gulab' (HarperCollins 2014); 'Love Stories # 1 to 14' (HarperCollins 2012), 'Known Turf: Bantering with Bandits and Other True Tales' (Tranquebar 2010), and co-author of 'The Good Indian Girl' (Zubaan 2011) and 'Crush' (Jaico 2007). I am also the editor of 'Unbound: 2000 Years of Indian Women's Writing' (Aleph 2015) and 'Equal Halves' (Juggernaut 2017). I received the Tata Literature Live Award for fiction in 2020 for 'Prelude to a Riot' and the Nine Dots Prize (2019) for an essay that later became 'Bread, Cement, Cactus: A memoir of belonging and dislocation'. I received The Hindu Playwright Award (2018) for my script 'Untitled 1' and was shortlisted for the same prize in 2009, for 'Name, Place, Animal, Thing'. A radio script ‘Jam’ was named regional winner for the BBC’s International Playwriting Competition in 2011. These scripts have been published as ‘Three Plays’ (Dhauli Books 2018). I have also written and directed five short films and a documentary film, 'In her words: The journey of Indian women' (PSBT 2015). |
