Introduction | Like many others who work in our industry. I was not a very good student, and was just plain bored with sitting in class. However, I loved working with my hands, and solving mechanical problems. I entered the trades in 1959, and in the late 1960s I got involved in teaching, which I still do for our Local PHCC, & IAPMOs Green Plumbers Program. In 1975, I started my own Plumbing Business, and like many new owners in our industry, I did not know how business really worked, or how much money to charge for my services. Then, in the recession of 1989-1992 we were looking at Bankruptcy, and I decided to try and save the business by finally finding out what it actually cost to operate our business. I also installed a Flat Rate Plumbing Service & Repair System, and later on added HVAC. After receiving many hours of help and advice from others, along with a lot of hard work on our part, we saved our company. I am a firm believer in making our industry better for everyone in it through ongoing training and education, and fully subscribe to that old adage, “A rising tide will float all boats”. |
