Introduction	I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. I make my living teaching "Bucket List" books like the Iliad and To The Lighthouse, writing, translating, producing and playing in chamber music concerts, and teaching Russian when the occasion arises. I’ve lived in New York City for a while now, and there are two special places within the beast where I always feel welcome and at home. One of them is the Samovar. It's just fun to write about such a unique cultural institution founded by a friend who is a survivor of the Siege of Leningrad and a consummate art lover of great energy and noble spirit.
