| Introduction | I am currently teaching Middle School Art. This is my third year for this age group. I have been teaching for nine years. I have also taught in a high school art room as well as a fourth grade classroom. My current assignment involves teaching students 7th-8th grade and a Moderately Cognitively Impaired art class so my lessons range from 2nd grade levels on up. My main goal for my students is to break down the mysteries of making great artwork so that all can succeed. I call it 'the tricks of the trade'. Once the students are successful with the basic steps, their confidence soars and they are willing to take the risk of trying a more challenging task. It's amazing how far confidence will take an artist, no matter the age. There is nothing better than seeing self-proclaimed non-artists produce something they can be proud of. The joy and pride shining in their faces is the proverbial gold at the end of the rainbow for me. I hope my lesson ideas, art tricks, management tips and other musings are helpful to you. |
