Introduction Degrees in Chemistry and Art History, museum conservation work, and a photofinishing stint somehow led me to jobs in needlework shops. Needlework being a favorite hobby, it seemed a natural progression.

Working and teaching at needlework shops increased my already growing knowledge/skills in all types of embroidery. In January 2004, I learned the art of punchneedle and then became a teacher. Hundreds of students and classes later, I’ve become a “designer” and “finisher” as well, in answer to those challenging questions: “What else is there?” and “This is nice but now what do I DO with it?” And HELEN’S TREASURES materialized.

Although my “specialty” now is punchneedle, I enjoy so many needlework disciplines. I love incorporating the punching with needlepoint, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, beading, and crafting of all kinds. When I was a kid, my Mom often left me alone with a pile of crayons, paper, etc. Nothing has changed. Give me a myriad of found objects and materials and I’ll create a “treasure”. I look forward to working with the CREATIVE COLLECTIVE, sharing my treasures with those who also appreciate and love the whimsies and wonders of the world.
