| Introduction | My name is Michelle, or as my closest friends call me, Shelly. As I begin this blog on an early fall evening in 2010, I find myself entering new and unfamiliar territory. You see, I am~above and beyond all else~a mother. A mother to five of the most wonderful human beings on this planet. My journey into motherhood began at the tender age of 19 when I gave birth to the first of my four beautiful daughters. And now, at the wise old age of 38, I find myself a mother once again~to a child conceived through IVF due to an irreversible tubal ligation. Faced with the decision of what to do with our remaining 6 frozen embryos, we opened our hearts to embryo adoption. While I have made complete peace with this choice, and feel God led us to our recipient couple beyond the shadow of a doubt, I wonder how I will cope with the knowledge that I have biological children whom I will not be raising. This blog is meant to serve as my very own therapeutic journal~in hopes it will not only help me but perhaps others considering this journey as well. |
