| Introduction | We’re an inter-professional team of Public Health and School of Planning graduate students with a passion for social justice and a commitment to physical, emotional, and economic health. Following an eye-opening, week-long experience in the U.S./Mexico Border Health Service Learning Course many of us attended in August 2011 in Douglas, Arizona and Agua Prieta, Mexico, we decided to take our newfound interest in border health and migration issues further south. This May, we’ll be working with public health organizations, local businesses and governmental and NGO agencies to determine the root causes of migration and why so many people from Central and South America embark on the treacherous journey, leaving behind their homes, friends and families, in the hopes of a better life in “El Norte.” |
