About me

Introduction Parkway Area Adult Education and Literacy has provided classes for GED preparation, academic skills, and English as a Second Language for 40 years. The organization serves over 3000 students annually and works with 7 school districts and 20 additional community partners. Parkway AEL is currently piloting a framework for integrating health literacy into the adult education curriculum; the pilot includes lessons on key health topics, as well as development of health and wellness management skills like self-advocacy, in the context of language learning and academic skill development. The pilot is funded by Missouri Foundation for Health and carried out in cooperation with Health Literacy Missouri and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Adult Education and Literacy section.
