| Introduction | I love to ride, in any kind of condition, on any kind of bike, though the road is what I love the most, followed by what the Belgians call a ‘cross,” with the indefinite article placed just so. However, I also have a four-year old daughter, and a limited income. So I’ve pared down all aspects of my life as a cyclist, and in the process become a stronger, tougher one. I maximize my time on the bike. I go out in any kind of weather, at any hour of the day or night, and look into pain until it becomes beauty. I eat honey…. Above all, I’ve learned to maintain my equipment, even improve it, by keeping it clean and well-lubed. I’ve avoided buying new chains, cassettes, rings, cables, even shifters. And I’ve discovered performance advantages where I didn’t think I would. Now it's time to share my thoughts on how to maintain your ride, which is where this blog comes in. And it all begins with using the right products for the job, which is where Finish Line comes in. Yes, they’re paying me to write this. If they weren’t, I probably couldn’t justify spending the time on it. But they’re also allowing me to talk about their products as critically as I want… |
