Gender Female
Industry Non-Profit
Occupation Community Mental Health Project Manager and Trainer
Location Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Introduction I’ve worked in community mental health since 2005 and I’m a passionate advocate for human rights and consumer-led recovery work. My work in this area began when I first started to recover from my own experiences of mental distress. In 2010 I experienced psych hospital again for the first time in 8 years. Words are not sufficient to describe what it's like to be so utterly distressed that you want to die, and then to be locked up and have your cigarettes taken away. The suffering this ban caused me - and others - has motivated me to start this campaign of publicity, research and legal action. As a nice side benefit, I find that when I am using my anger constructively to try to bring about positive change, I have very little room left for depression.
Interests Human rights, consumer-led recovery, creative arts and my beautiful cat, Angus.
