IntroductionThe Nigeria Customs Services NSC was founded in 1891,T. A. Wall as Director-General of Customs.In 1922 was named as Department of Customs and Excise. In 1964, the first Nigerian CEO, Ayodele Diyan, was appointed, In 1975 board members retired,the role ceo and chairman was replaced by directors,In 1978,In 1992 it was renamed as Nigeria Customs Service (NSC), the name by which it is still recognised today. Sani Abacha took power in 1993,In 1999 he was replaced by Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha,The zonal structure employed under the Abacha government was also retained,When Mustapha retired in late 2003. In 2014,under Inde Abdullahi Dikko as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, the first ever Computer Based Promotion Examination (CBT) was conducted and the outcome of the exercise was one of the criteria used for the promotion of officers to various ranks in 2015.Abdullahi Dikko Inde, the service's comptroller has a largely positive reputation and by the unit he was known as "Mr Welfare". Abdullahi Dikko resigned publicly stated at a training seminar "We pledge to be steadfast, committed and resolute in this fight no matter how overwhelming the challenges may appear.
