| Introduction | Derald Eastman has been interested in art since a very young age. His sixth grade teacher recognized this and gave him encouragement. As did his high school art teacher Don Musick. His formal art training was as a student at the University of Kansas majoring in Painting/illustration. Where he was closely tutored by Jack Armstrong. Having been employed in advertising for a number of years only recently has he been able to seriously pursue his artistic interest. He pays painstaking attention to the composition of his paintings; in particular with the use of negative and positive areas which he considers of primary importance. These days he said, ”he paints with more economical means by suggesting detail rather than rendering it.” As a member of the Alabama art community Derald’s work has been recognized in shows and received numerous awards. In the past few years he has focused his painting primarily in acrylics as well as watercolor. |
