My blogs
| Introduction | I was first elected to the Alberta Legislature as the member from Edmonton Gold Bar in the general election of 1997. I am currently serving my fourth term and campaigning to become the leader of the Alberta Liberal Party. Over the past fourteen years I have held a range of critic portfolios and developed diverse skills. Most prominent would include my service as the critic for health, energy, finance and labour. I have not missed one sitting day in fourteen years of legislative sittings—a perfect attendance record. I have also served on many different legislative committees including the demanding and prestigious position of Chair of the Standing Committee for Public Accounts. The public accounts committee reviews past public spending and makes sure that the books are balanced and honestly kept. I was born August 5, 1955 in Souris, Prince Edward Island. Raised on the family farm and I learned how to work hard at an early age. Prior to becoming an MLA, I spent twenty years employed in Alberta’s petroleum industry as a boilermaker and small business owner. Along with my wife Jan we have lived in the Strathearn area of Edmonton Gold Bar where we have raised our three children. |
