| Introduction | I arrived in Colorado Springs on Flag Day 1982. After finishing law school and working in Washington, D.C., for the U.S. Treasury Department, I took Horace Greeley’s advice. As a high school student in Ohio, I fell in love with the West. Each summer the school offered an outdoor science program that put 35 students on a bus headed west. One year the trip went north to Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone, and back east through the Dakota Badlands. The next it turned south through Mesa Verde, Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon before following Route 66 back east. I took both those trips and knew Colorado was where I wanted to live. I first ran for City Council in 1987, won an at large seat, and served until 1999. Due to term limits I left Council and ran again in 2003. I will have completed my second tenure this April. During my time on City Council, I have served with 26 different council members, four mayors, and at least nine city managers. My experience as an at large council member and my interest in economics will provide valuable and unique insights as Colorado Springs moves forward. I am an attorney in private practice, married and the father of three sons. |
