Introduction Flutist and radio host Dr. Katchie Cartwright’s Brazilian trio celebrates a world of Brazilian genres, from choro to MPB, Brazilian jazz, baião, and more. The freewheeling virtuoso group features Dr. Marco Antonio Santos of Minas Gerais on guitar, Dr. Fabio Augustinis from São Paulo on drums, and Jan Flemming from Köln on accordion. An ethnomusicologist and musician, Katchie Cartwright has a doctorate in music from The City University of New York. She relocated to San Antonio in 2006 to accept a position at Northwest Vista College, where she continued to serve as a professor of music. She performs regionally and internationally, with her own ensembles and as a side person.

Interests Born in New York, Cartwright has lived there for much of her adult life, but her idyllic summers and many winters of her youth were spent in the deep woods of Minisink Hills, Pennsylvania and at the Deer Head Inn and other jazz watering holes in the Delaware Water Gap area. Her first instrument was flute, but she's recorded multiple albums as a singer as well. Her musical tastes have always been broad, encompassing classical and popular traditions of her own culture and idioms from various other corners of the world.
