| Introduction | I Believe… • All people have an equal claim to life, liberty, freedom, tolerance and justice – and no law, government, majority, religion, ideology or prejudice can ethically deny, even one individual, equal opportunity to enjoy them. • In the universal family of mankind, without regard for divisive ideologies that capitalize on differences in race, religion, creed, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation. • In an uncompromising commitment to ethics, freedom, equity, equality, justice and tolerance for all. These values should mandate our faith. Any faith, religion, scripture, church or institution whose teachings or actions conflict with these values should be abandoned. • That empathy is the most noble of all virtues. It is only through empathy with those suffering, disenfranchised or repressed that we can achieve equity in our treatment of others. • There is no higher authority than reason. To question is the answer. Spiritual growth depends on the search for better answers. • There are only human solutions to human problems. If we cannot do it, it will not get done. Any reliance upon mysticism or supernaturalism impedes human progress. |
