Favorite Movies Like music, below, I have pretty wide-ranging tastes in movies, and will watch almost anything but slasher flicks, and most of the work by Woody Allen and Robert Altman. Vicky Cristina Barcelona and McCabe and Mrs. Miller are the only exceptions to that rule, but they are notably OUTSTANDING films, in my opinion. Faves, on the other hand, include Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, Wild Hogs, The World's Fastest Indian, the late-'60s biker-exploitation films, and, completely off-topic, White Palace with James Spader and Susan Sarandon. A great second-chance love story.
Favorite Music You name it, I probably like it. Everything from '50s rock 'n' roll and '60s folk 'n' psychedelia to the latest 'n' greatest. Particular faves include: Leonard Cohen, Eric Andersen, Bruce Springsteen, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Mickey Newbury, John McCutcheon, Bill Morrisey, Slaid Cleaves, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Calvin Russell, Leon, Russell, Ray Wylie Hubbard (prior to 2001), and a lot of work by Bob Dylan, Bruce Cockburn, Billy Joe Shaver, Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Johnny Cash, David Allan Coe, the late Stephen Bruton.... The late Dave Carter with Tracy Grammer, and Tracy's solo albums after Dave's untimely death. Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines. Christine Albert and Chris Gage. Blake Powers and Fallon Franklin, dynamite whether they're recording under their own names, or as "Blake and Fallon". Janis Ian, Lucinda Williams, Ani Difranco, Jane Gillman and Darcie Deville together and apart and with other artists, Melissa Etheridge, Rosanne Cash, Jean Synodinos, Kate Wolf, Kate Campbell, Tift Merritt, Maria McKee, Tracy Chapman, the late Judy Roderick.... The Pretty Reckless and Halestorm are two recent fascinations. Intelligent lyrics and powerful rock music from two powerhouse bands with female leads. I could go on, but I think you get the picture.
Favorite Books Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford, Hell's Angels by the late Hunter S. Thompson, Hell's Angel by Ralph "Sonny" Barger (HAMC) w/ Keith & Kent Zimmerman, The Bikeriders by photographer/former Outlaws MC member Danny Lyon, Sleeping Where I Fall by actor Peter Coyote, Well Made In America by Peter C. Reid, The Perfect Vehicle by Melissa Holbrook Pierson, Hog Fever by Richard LaPlante, Chasing Che by Patrick Symmes, Riding With Rilke by Ted Bishop, The Road Within edited by the O'Reilly boys, 7 Tattoos by Peter Trachtenberg, Desert Solitaire (and most anything else) by Edward Abbey, Dispatches by Michael Herr.
