| Introduction | Tucked away about 35 miles southwest of South Lake Tahoe, Kirkwood offers big Mountain skiing/riding with a small town attitude. Kirkwood offers 2000ft of vertical drop, and over 2300 acres of terrain from calm groomed beginner runs to hair raising cornices, cliffs and the most high angle grooming around. Kirkwood with its elevation ranging from 7,800 to 9,800 feet can convert precipitation to snow at a high snow-to-liquid ration similar to the Sierra crest, but with more available moisture on the west slope. The end result is that Kirkwood averages about 40 feet of snow each year making it home to one of the deepest snowpacks in North America! |
