Introduction Javier Guerrero holds a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese from New York University. He specializes in twentieth-century Latin American literature and culture with an emphasis on gender and sexualities, visual culture, and film studies. Before coming to New York, he was the President of the Venezuelan Film Archive [Cinemateca Nacional] and curated over 25 International Film Series and Festivals. Recently, Guerrero coedited Excesos de Cuerpo (Eterna Cadencia, 2009, reprinted in 2011) and the dossier Cuerpos enfermos/Contagios culturales (Estudios, 2010, 2011). His scholarship also includes a book on the Mexican filmmaker Mauricio Walerstein and a novel titled Balnearios de Etiopia (2010). His book-lenght manuscript El cuerpo bajo sospecha: Plasticidad y exhibicionismo en América Latina is forthcoming. Currently, he is working on a new book titled "Synthetic Matter: Dolls and Horror in Latin America". Javier Guerero is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence University. He has also taught at NYU and Wesleyan University (CT).
