Introduction Michael served a three-year term as Commissioner to reform the West Hempstead Water District and was unanimously elected by his peers to act as Secretary for the Nassau/Suffolk Water Commissioner’s Association. As Commissioner, Michael instituted unprecedented reforms, opening the District’s business to the public, creating a website and quarterly newsletter, spotlighting abuses, and reporting on health concerns. Michael has worked as a board member of the West Hempstead Civic Association for the last 10 years. As Co-Chair of the PTA Environmental Education Committee, a board member of the Nassau County Cornell Cooperative Extension, and founder of Community Green, he continues to lead many civic projects that increase the awareness and the restoration of the local natural environment. Michael has operated a successful family business for 20 years since graduating West Hempstead High School and acquiring an AAS from SUNY Farmingdale. Michael is married 21 years to his high school sweetheart Paula, who is a licensed clinical geriatric social worker. Together they have three wonderful children, Ian, Gillian and Sophia.
Interests Swimming, garden design, kayaking, horseback riding and photography.
