Introduction My interest in textiles began by watching my family quilt, sew clothing and crochet. At an early age I began to learn those skills from Grandmothers, Mother and Aunts. After seeing my first loom at age 18, I began weaving by taking a class at Berea College in Kentucky. I have steadily built skills through classes at Penland School of Craft, John C. Campbell Folk School and Haywood Community College, where I earned a degree in fiber arts. In recent years the focus of my studio has changed to include nature inspired soft sculpture. The sculptures represent and interpret animal forms inspired by my daily observations of the natural world around my studio and the mountains I live in. I use hand stitching, embroidery, fabric-dyeing and doll-making techniques to create objects with a life of their own.
Interests I am an avid collector of just about anything old, odd or primitive. Some of my collections include: buttons, quilts, firkins, pottery and yellow ware bowls.
