IntroductionInformation never arrives naked—it comes dressed in a worldview. Every sentence carries the fingerprints of its author: their values, their incentives, the culture they move within, and the audience they’re quietly trying to persuade. To read well, then, is not just to absorb claims, but to locate them—who is speaking, from where, and toward what end. Serious critical thinking doesn’t discard this context; it sharpens it. It asks not only, “Is this true?” but also, “Under what conditions could this be proven false?” That discipline—falsifiability—acts as a kind of intellectual audit. Yet even that audit depends on something more demanding: interior honesty. Our own biases don’t vanish under scrutiny; they reorganise themselves at different layers of awareness. Recognising them is less about elimination and more about integration. This becomes especially relevant when science steps into the arena of public policy. What presents as neutral evidence can be quietly shaped by publication bias, funding pathways, and the polished hands of consultancy networks and public relations firms.
