Introduction I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio during a time when my mom wore white gloves and I wore army fatigues, the Cuyahoga river was so polluted that it burned for 3 days, and my 8th grade science class took a field trip to view the oily flames. My childhood neighborhood was a model of 60s liberalism and my father was a right-wing political hawk. Mediating the gap between the sometimes radically different powers that shaped me led me to become a journalist in New York. Sadly, the era of print journalism is coming to an end. Boom Underground is my effort to create the magazine that I'd publish if I could. Directed at Baby Boomers and those of us who are still amazed that we're no longer 17 and that our knees are giving out, I hope that Boom Underground will become a clearing house for healthy, hysterical, and appropriately unhinged looks at ourselves- then and now- as well as a place where those born after 1964 can get a sense of the unique elements that shaped their elders.
