| Introduction | Barbara: I learned how to play Mah Jongg at Engelman’s Bungalow Colony when I was eleven years old. That was when you could still use a joker in a pair or for a singleton. My friends and I would get out of day camp and watch the moms play until it was time for them to go and make dinner. Then we would take over. My mom and her friends took turns teaching us. To this day, it warms my heart to know that the tiles I play with are the same ones my mother touched all those years ago. Susan: I retired in 2002 and my retiree friends and I learned to play Mah Jongg together. We played for several years once a week.... and then some moved away, one, sadly, passed away, and I needed new Mah Jongg friends and players. Friends were added and I've continued to play at least once every week. Sometimes more if I can! |
