| Introduction | I have been collecting postcards, mostly vintage railroad postcards, for some 15 years. My collection is more than just adding new cards to the almost 1000 that I have; this is more of a mission to save and share our nation's history in the postcard medium. My postcards range in dates from 1904 to the late 1950s and include real photo, linen, rotogravure, and collotype examples. All of the cards in my collection show an image of a time that will never be again with fashions, architecture, railroad equipment, horse-drawn wagons and carriages, as well as early and earlier automobiles. They show not only a different time, but a different world from a time when simple telephones, the telegraph, the daily newspaper, letters, and postcards were the internet. I will always admire the slower pace of life back then unbeknownst to those saved in history for one brief second of shutter speed. |
