| Introduction | I began my life as a fundamentalist Christian attending church every Sunday morning at the First Baptist Church in Junction City, Kansas. Eventually going to graduate school I earned a Ph.D. degree in the field of psychology. Realizing the inherent foolishness of the religious right (a religious system replete with ideas inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus), I discovered Christian Humanism, a much more thoughtful approach to Christianity, one that calls for us to live our lives according to the teachings of Jesus as found in the Sermon on the Mount. Then after Bush and Cheney invaded Iraq I wasted no time as I became a columnist for the Populist Party of America and wrote a series of articles chastising our country for its involvement in the war. I have a wife (Ann), a 35 year old son (Mike), and have just recently retired from a 43 year career as a Professor of Psychology. |
| Interests | Having been a psychologist for the past 44 years, I have spent a great deal of time trying to understand why folks who refer to themselves as Christians (folks who say they believe in a Christ Jesus who taught us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves) but, then, as if they are clueless fools, turn right around and do such things as spend there time, money, and votes, on incresing the amount of military weapons we have, laws that restrict the rights of minorities, bills that lead to more guns on the street. A great paradox that in time I have finally begun to unravel, and eventually write about as a columnist for the Populist Party of America (www.populistamerica.com), the poetry I have written in my book (Celebrating Life While Dancing With the Dead), and in one of the plays I have written entitled Wine (A play/story about what might have happened to Jesus if he had come back to Earth sometime around 1975). My other interests are spending time with my son (Mike) and my wife (Ann), my dog (Hayden), spending as much time as possible in the mountains, listening to classical music while I work out, and reading. |
