| Introduction | This blog was created as a means for allaying my anxieties and broadening my horizons. My anxiety was that I was consuming film too passively; not really digesting them, and having to write about film, forces you to think and read. The title of the blog comes from the influence the Cinematheque Francaise has had on me and the inspiration it has given me as a cinephile. Although this has been through books (not counting a visit to Paris and Bercy in August when it was closed). Hence the name Videotheque Anglais, as my viewing is largely restricted to digital projection of films. And I'm English. As a play on the name of the blog, I also thought it would be interesting to literally use the name and steal programming ideas directly from the CF. One of the most important things for cinephilia, I believe, is eclecticism. And this should 'force' me to watch films that I otherwise wouldn't. |
| Favorite movies | Too many. Am I the only one who occasionally thinks that they have seen too many films and at the same time, not enough? |
| Favorite books | Wonder Boys, The Town and the City (Jack Kerouac in general), Catch 22, Three Men in a Boat, The Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, Hell's Angels (Hunter Thompson), A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bryson), The Third Policeman, Lots of film related non-fiction of course. |
