| Introduction | In 2010, Luis' life-long passion for professional wrestling sent him on an epic adventure, eventually ending up in Guadalajara, Mexico where he trained the style of wrestling known as lucha libre at the world famous Gimnasio del Diablo Velasco. After an unfortunate injury, Luis returned to his studies at Brown University where he studies Classical Studies with his main focus being the so-called "heavy events" of the ancient Greek Olympics and the gladiatorial fights on ancient Rome. This summer (2012) Luis plans to spend his time in Greece after receiving a BISP Fellowship to study the remains of ancient athletic sites in the country. Luis' hopes are to find a common narrative between his experience as a wrestler in Mexico and the experiences of wrestlers in ancient Greece. His findings will culminate in his senior thesis work. |
