| Introduction | I grew up in an ordinary lower-middle class family, won a scholarship I didn't apply for,and so, to my great surprise, ended up going to college instead of working at TG&Y. My first teaching job was for grades 1, 2 and 3 in a 3-room country school in Kansas. Since then, I've TA'd, lectured, professored, and deaned. In 35 years driving a lectern, I threw only 2 students out of class, but I met a lot of administrators I could do without. |
