IntroductionHi! I’m Al and welcome to my corner of the web. I'm the librarian of a small branch that's part of an amazing library community. I hope to share what I've been finding works (and doesn't) in my experience as a librarian, and to be an additional voice in the advocacy of libraries. I've found similar blogs to be incredibly helpful, so I'd like to give back, offering my small contribution as a way of saying "thanks!"

What’s a “Great, Wide Somewhere”?
For those of you who don’t get the reference to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, I highly recommend watching it. It’s not a long movie; I'll wait…..
To me the “great, wide somewhere” is a metaphor for the vast world of books and information out there waiting to be discovered and shared. Information can come from unexpected places and as both a librarian and library patron, I’m a firm believer that libraries are the best way to channel and navigate the enormity of what can be found.

I hope you’ll join me on my journey to explore the great, wide somewhere of information and libraries. I promise not to sing in dandelion fields along the way… much. ;)
InterestsLibrary programming, collection management, reader advisory, library e-presence. When not getting excited about the evolving role of public libraries in local communities, I’ve been known to spend quality time cooking and baking. I enjoy reading, organizing, traveling, yoga, and Disney. I occasionally impose upon people gratuitous pictures of my cat (see profile pic) and more than occasionally impose book suggestions. Someday I hope to call my attempts at hitting tiny white balls “golfing.”
Favorite booksThe Complete Works of Shakespeare (That can count as one, right?), Moby Dick, Pride & Prejudice, Crime & Punishment, Brave New World, Wicked, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, you know what; just check out my Goodreads page. There's too many to list here...
