| Introduction | I am an artist specialising in birds, mainly birds of prey. Presently most work is in oils and pencil, and I will take 10 years or more on some pieces. This way I can put more soul into them, but of course this also limits output. What I like to capture is expression and natural features, sometimes a sky scene or a single rock will have prominence. The relationship of the creature to its environment is important, it sets a tone of its own. In many compositions a Hitchcockian feel exists, the grey sky, a bare, single tree, corvids whirling around in a menacing way, and quite often a raptor. Majesty and melancholia come together; the loneliness of the long-distance bird is meant to be felt as well as its regality. I started painting some 40 years ago when as a child a drew boats swaying in the tide on the Bosporus, studied in New York, and have exhibited in Jacksonville, Florida, and in London at the Arts Club. |
