Introduction Paul Nielson studies privately with his master(in the traditional sense of the word) famed Swiss-born artist Patrick Devonas. Devonas studied at the Atelier, Le Seuer, then went on to receive his Masters from the New York Academy of Art. From which he is prestigiously exhibited and recognized. Patrick and Paul met in 2004 and are still training together. Paul has a second master, William Whitaker, a family friend from who Nielson has learned much of the tradition of “Classical Realism”. William has been painting since 1965 and is world renoun for his portraits. After graduating with a B.A.from BYU, Nielson continued studying the methods of the Academy. Especially after the manner of the Ecole de Beaux Arts from the 19th century France. He began to find his symbolist roots in Puvis de Chavanes and other symbolists. His study was intensive and rigorous in formal academic training, especially of the figure, but he never lost sight of the importance of imagination. He obtained much of his formal training at the Carl Bloch Academy, an academy devoted to figure study and neoclassical ideals led and founded by Patrick and William. Paul finds various patrons, clients and collectors.
