| Introduction | Michael Todd Bernard is an educator, author, and public speaker. He has been teaching in high school and college English for over twenty years. He has given instructional and inspirational speeches to audiences around the country and has led professional development sessions on topics such as closing the achievement gap, assessment for learning, backward design, and achieving the goals of trimester scheduling. He has been nominated Kentucky teacher of the year twice and was awarded Kentucky Black Achiever of the year for 2010-2011. Currently, he resides in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife and four children.
