| Introduction | I'm an anthropologist/writer/social activist who teaches at UNC-Chapel Hill. I recently authored "Healing the Body Politic" a book about popular health and violence in El Salvador, where I lived & worked as a journalist in the late 1980s. (Forthcoming, Rutgers U. Press). I also write about labor, Latino immigration, globalization, and sustainability. Since 2005 I have been active with NGOs working on public education about peak oil and climate change. I am married to Don Nonini, a political anthropologist & Asianist, and we have a 20-year-old son, Roque, who is majoring in film at Savannah College of Art & Design. |
