| Introduction | DB was first introduced to model building and in particular Tom Daniel designs in 1969 by his father Allen. The senior Builteman was building the famous “Paddy Wagon” and an obsession was born. Derek began building models soon thereafter and continued into his teen years. His hobby was derailed for nearly three decades as the busyness of life and raising kids took over. However, after a recent back surgery the obsession was born anew and here we are. Mr. Builteman also enjoys writing and this blog gives him the opportunity to write and hear from the modeling community. “I am strictly an amateur,” Derek said. “The level of creativity is amazing out there. By stating this blog I am hoping to give a forum for all of the talent that is out there and to hear from all of the TD aficionados that exist,” he added. In addition to building TD kits he is an avid cyclist who rides in century events five to six times a year. Derek also volunteers as a basketball and baseball coach at the local high school in addition to a full time job. He concluded: “If I can work five more years, retire to PB and build kits at the beach I would be one happy dude!” |
