| Introduction | I made a career in newspapers, beginning with the Citizen Tribune in Morristown, TN, after graduating with a major in history from Carson-Newman College in nearby Jefferson City. I returned to Georgia, my home state, in 1969, and became an editor for The Macon News. I later joined The Macon Telegraph as managing editor. Six years later, I became executive managing editor for the Pasadena (CA) Star-News. I returned south to become an editor for The Charlotte Observer during the sex scandal that eventually brought down The PTL Club, a top evangelical TV program. PTL stands for “Praise The Lord.” Allegations that PTL host Jim Bakker channeled millions of dollars of church money for his own use led to his imprisonment. I later returned to Georgia as city editor for the News Daily in Jonesboro. I am now retired and loving it. Don Floyd |
