| Introduction | We are Deb Rosenfeld and Marion Goldstein. Between the two of us we have six children, ages 10, 9, 7, 6, and 2 (twins!). We have taught kids, worked with teachers and families, and for more than a decade have focused on the potential of digital resources to support teaching and learning. We met as grad students at Teachers College and both found our ways to EDC’s Center for Children & Technology where we design, implement, and study the educational effectiveness of learning media. Along the way, we’ve learned that even the best digital tools rarely work in isolation; more important than the resources are the people (teachers, parents, friends…) who provide guidance, spur productive talk, and connect digital experiences to hands-on, real-world activities. As the effects of Covid-19 ripple around us, we face an immediate need (ahem, opportunity) to support our kids’ learning in a more formal way than is normal for us. We are looking forward to practicing what we preach and sharing our family’s experiences (the flops and successes!). |
