| Introduction | I am originally from Exeter in Devon, but moved to Plymouth in 1982 to gain a HND in Graphic Design at Plymouth College of Art. In 2011 I graduated from the University of Plymouth with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art. The influence of graphic art has remained paramount in my work and I produce hand-made books containing prose created by extracting text from existing sources. I also investigate drawing techniques, photography and printmaking. All the creative elements of my practice combine beautifully in the vehicle of the hand-made artist book. The themes I explore are led mainly by responses to particular places or events, often focussing on an emotional connection to nature, objects or places. Working predominantly with paper, graphite and ink, my work explores the subtleties of mark making, as well as using found objects to create texture. In addition to my book work, I am a printmaker, specifically working on monotype prints and I combine this with drawings of ancient and notable trees. I regularly attend Book Fairs and enjoy talking about the process of making hand-made artist books. |
